How do I keep my arrow on the shelf of my long bow?
I’m just starting to dabble in archery. I am a traditional shooter, and I use a long bow. When I draw my bow my arrow keeps falling off of the arrow shelf. I’ve been told that I am holding/drawing the string wrong, but nothing I try seems to work. I wear a glove and I place the string between the tips of my fingers and the first joint. Please help me before I become too discouraged to continue!!
I also cant the bow to one side, but still no luck.
A good answer was to lean it to one side. Just make sure that you are accurate that way. That’s similiar to shooting a pistol sideways. Some people can do, others can’t.
Another trick is to hold your index finger along the arrow as your draw it back. Just make sure that you put your finger back down before you release.

In Arkansas, I swear it is so hard to get into archery. I would like any help in finding where I can get a good Flat bow and arrows for getting started. Also, where I might take beginners lessons.

Try this website for archery clubs, www.usarchery.org. The website is for the NAA, the Olympic governing body of archery in the US, but those ranges are bound to have instructors for traditional shooting. Another one if you want traditional is the SCA, they’re a group that does medieval reenactment. www.sca.org I believe is their website and you can search for the kingdom or barony in your area.
