Does anyone know of a good job in Alaska for a hardworking 22 year old male from Montana?
Ive been sold on coming up for a while, would like to find a good job, place to stay, and hunting buddies. I primarily bowhunt, but rifle as well. I dream of taking those Grizz and Brown bears with my bow. Im a good learner and willing to work, listen, recieve instruction, and gut all my buddies kills. haha, im on my way i guess. Id appreciate any advice and thank you all for the advice recieved already.
Alaska is just like every other state out there in terms of what jobs it has to offer. Anyone willing to work can find it. There are a few jobs for senior citizen types, or for the very young and inexperienced folks that only pay about $8.00 or so to start, but most common jobs start at $10-12.00 and more. However, there are a lot of truly unique jobs found here in the North country that require more dedicated individuals willing to put in a bit more effort than most and those jobs are the ones that pay the most. You’ve seen the fisherman and crabbers. It IS dangerous, but highly profitable. There are processor jobs for the fish and crab industries that also pay well, but the hours are long and tedious and very repetitive. But again, the dollars add up quick. The pipeline still employs workers and a new pipeline is just getting ready to start up which will hire a LOT of Alaskans. It promises to pay well! Also, in the Wasilla area, a new state prison will begin construction in the spring and construction crews will start from the ground up to erect one of the largest building projects ever undertaken in the state of Alaska. Once the prison is finished….at least a year or two later, the new facility will employ between 300 and 400 full and part time employees. A lot of prospecting for gold and other minerals is still a popular occupation up here as well. There are numerous construction projects, maintenance crews, summer park and tourist service jobs, and others that almost anyone can handle without having to put in 12 hour days and 7 day work-weeks. I would recommend coming with every dollar you can lay your hands on. Be prepared to find an inexpensive efficiency apartment ($450.00 per month) and start pounding the pavement looking for what makes you most comfortable. Gas here is dropping (slowly) and is currently about $2.45 a gallon. We expect it to drop more before it levels out. Prices for food at the fast food stops like McDonalds, Taco Bell, KFC, Arby’s, D.Q., etc. are close to the same as the lower 48, but just a tad higher. The average price of a good meal at IHOP is $10-12.00. Groceries in Safeway/Carr’s markets tend to be a bit higher than I like, but I do all of mine in Super Wal-Mart where I pay prices only slightly higher than I found them in Oregon and Washington when I left there. It just isn’t too hard to take…especially since this is where my heart is and where I REALLY want to be. I remember answering a question similar to this several years ago. I was managing the hunting and camping departments for a large sporting goods chain in Georgia. One of my department associates asked if I thought he should go to Alaska to check out a job working with a guide as a duck calling and hunting assistant. I advised him to grab it with both hands and don’t let go. He did. Two weeks later, they flew him back home to the Atlanta, area. They wanted to hire his chocolate lab too. ;o) He loved it all!

Since I met jessica dating with that guy enjoying candle dinner romanticly last week, I find a biggest, yet cruel truth of my life—I really fall in love with the girl whom I always considered as a sister!
Oh, no, that is not true. I tell myself. We are good friends for many years, and there is no doubt that we are intimate pal, we are family. How could it be? When I see it, I feel that my blood pressure nearly escape the gravity, and goes up into sky like a rocket.

“what are you waiting for, just go ahead!” jessica’s comfidant, susan scolds me. It won’t be easy, I think. That guy is a postgraduate of a famous university, and he has great expectation. It seems that jessica has a little like of him. What could I do? I am only a freelance earning little money, introvert and boring. Maybe the only merit is to do some good woodworking, the biggest achievement is to be called a good writer and excellent carpenter by a local reporter of our town. Sounds good?!

When I decide that if I should build up a wooden cottage, I receive jessica’s phonecall: if you don’t appear in front of me 5 minutes later, I will kick you out off your house like 20 years ago!

You could try some online book clubs or collector auctions. You could also browse ebay. I have just inherited a bunch of old books from the same era that you have. I noticed ebay didnt give as much money for them as i thought they would. So im on the same hunt,right now im looking for sites that dont charge to auction or sell your items. You could also try your local antique dealers and see what they think. Good luck!
