10 Tips for Using Flash in E-learning
In our last article, we sought to use graphics in e-Learning. Now, consider another important tool to create interactions for success – Adobe Flash ™ software. Flash is a vector animation program and interactivity that lets you create simple animations to complex interactive applications. With its programming language ability – ActionScript – Flash fully programmable and can communicate with master database of multi-language. Since the first Flash product appeared (from Macromedia), the community e-learning has worked with Flash developers and engineers to make Flash content environments increasingly accessible e-Learning.
With its rich Features list capabilities, integrated components, import and export of models of e-Learning, Flash makes sense to maximize the course content. In this article we will highlight some important features of Flash and how your course of brightness.
1. Step by step procedures for Animation
In 10 Tips for Using Graphics in e-Learning we saw the importance of using graphs in progress to strengthen the way they meet the learning objectives. We talked on different methods of delivery for the transport of material, and one of those methods was animation. Flash animation using calendar which makes it very easy to make animated films. Graphics can be created directly in Flash, but most developers to use other tools they feel most comfortable - especially Adobe Creative Suite. With Flash CS3, you can now import native Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Even can convert "layered" files from these programs in video clips and animation of different layers using keyframes in the Timeline.
In e-Learning materials, step-by-step procedures may be particularly difficult. Think about the last piece of furniture that should be implemented. How useful were the instructions? One of the things IKEA does well these instructions is non-text for assembling your furniture. These instructions are pure images. Take this concept a little further and you have the animation. A step by step animation education is much more powerful than static images. During an animation, you can highlight specific areas, use animated arrows, and express a learning objective much more naturally and efficiently.
When the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) asked SyberWorks to produce a series of courses for its members to play bridge, using Flash to create animated sequences play cards, and illustrate the game becomes specific. The images of the maps have been prepared in Adobe Illustrator, imported into Flash, and converted in clips. Using scripts provided by ACBL, we created animations for each work, to illustrate the rules it represents. Other graphics and text will be available in Flash to draw parts of the animation. These courses are offered to hundreds of players across the bridge countries.
2. Easy Audio Integration
Adding audio a course in HTML only presents difficulties for course designers. First Instead, several audio formats are available on the web today: WAV, AIF, MP3, M4A, etc. Worse still is the great variety of audio applications and their player associations the file type for both Mac and Windows. The users download specific players is a distraction from the course materials, and a potential source of additional problems.
Flash, however, supports multiple audio formats and games that all use the Flash Player, which has a penetration rate of 98% of the market. The Flash Player is available in all major browsers and platforms, and is even available in most web applications. You can easily import almost any audio file, add to the timeline in Flash, publish the Flash movie presentation of the course, and be sure that users can listen to audio without having to download an extra player.
Another problem with the audio is that, if an audio file is not configured to "listen" it is possible that some of the sounds may disappear. Integrates Flash streaming capabilities, so you can be sure that audio content will be delivered to users without the abandonment and deprivation.
At SyberWorks, which use Flash for audio on the fly. The audio is recorded in our audio lab and stored in a common format. The file is imported into Flash. ActionScript is used conjunction with on-screen buttons to allow users to control audio playback. This interactive audio file can be connected to any What course, using the application SyberWorks Web Author.
3. Course Navigation
How is your smart course navigation? By "intelligent" I mean that can communicate with the LMS? More Navigation on the course was boring and superficial. If his season Flash, the courses will be more usable.
Since Flash can work with SCORM and AICC courses, on-screen buttons can be written using ActionScript to send calls to the LMS for certain conditions. A button at the end of a lesson can send a final statement to the LMS, which means the end of lessons and initiate new actions. Another button can automatically send the results of a competition.
best learning experiences are possible, since the whole interface is fully customizable, and buttons are easy to create Flash. You can even use your library integrated navigation buttons to create your course.
At SyberWorks, that some adjustments Rear existing e-Learning courses (developed for restaurant employees) for our LMS, with all the necessary calls for the state of the course and its completion. These Flash-based courses had an aspect uniform and the feeling it was much more attractive than a web experiences HTML text.
4. Creating Simulations
Some software tools such as Camtasia and Captivate, were designed exclusively to create simulation software. They have their advantages and disadvantages, and use SyberWorks, with other simulation software. But what if the software you need to create a simulation not available for the platform, or just work behind a firewall from a client?
When the Palm Pilot came out, I had the opportunity to create a software simulation showed that the new owners how to use the device. Since the Palm software resides only on the Palm Pilot, I could not use a software simulation tool based on PC for capturing screens. So I used my scanner and Photoshop, imported the screens and graphics in Flash, and created the simulation.
At SyberWorks, we currently working with a company whose proprietary software internet (for security reasons) only works on computers behind your firewall. Since we can not install or use your software in the business, we had to go to the location of the customer to take screenshots. These images were then imported into Flash, banners and highlights were added, and the course material to life.
5. Video
The video is becoming more common on the Web these days, with the rise of YouTube and other video streaming services. The video can significantly improve course material, but (as with audio) can be difficult to manage because of multiple formats and video players. On the PC, AVI is the dominant format and Windows Media Player is used. On the Mac, MOV is the format of choice and an Apple Quicktime player is the dominant player. However, there are other video formats and players, including Real Media Player / Real and others.
When Flash MX 2004 was released, the video was an important element. And with Flash CS3, video has become even easier to integrate. It can display video on your own dedicated server or a Flash Video Streaming Server, the extra bandwidth. Flash has its own video format, called Flash Video (FLV). Flash videos can be played by any Flash movie (SWF), so no additional player is required. In fact, the Most of these films were made in the YouTube Flash video format.
A short demonstration video, not more than 1 minute, can be integrated into a Flash animation. nothing more than what can be linked to a Flash file and to progressively download from your server. If you expect a lot of traffic and have more movies, you must use a Flash Video Streaming Server. Many of these services FMS there, and upstream SyberWorks our host uses the network of great videos.
Flash and ActionScript, you can also do more reading of a film. Benchmarks can take some video, to control events. And the subtitle function can add subtitles for the new segments video. At SyberWorks, we created a video of a speaker presenting a slideshow. Points in the video signal triggered relevant text to appear, and gives the impression that the viewer was actually on the field, see the original presentation.
But keep in mind that video is processor intensive. Think about your audience and the minimum system requirements needed to view videos Streaming Flash. reading frame and the loss may occur on the contradiction slower machines.
6. Drag and Drop Interactions
A simple multiple choice test can be effective in testing situations, but drag and drop interactions can add many features useful interactive. With drag and drop interaction, you can simulate experiences that mimic the real world.
Using Flash ActionScript, drag and place interactions can be created from scratch, using hitTest properties and if conditional to test if an object is dropped on a specific target. If the object has landed on its correct destination, the application displays a correct answer or visual and audio commentary. If the object is dropped on their exact destination, an incorrect response or visual and audio feedback can occur.
In Flash, you can access the drag and drop (and other) interactions, from the window, menu, and after libraries Common built, and after learning interactions. The interactions are ActionScript 2.0 only, but it has all the features necessary to create many desired interactions. You can then use the flash Inspector interaction between the components to configure, modify their text, and change the conditions of their tests.
At SyberWorks, we created interaction Drag and drop to meet the needs of personalized content many of our customers. Make a custom application gives us complete control over appearance, Of course, environments and parameters of their interactions. Audio can also provide user feedback for each action, and a final screen provides users with the efficiency in the conduct of exercises.
7. Components
Flash is delivered with interface components made by ready to use that can be added to courses and configured by the Component Inspector and the Settings panel. These components include: radio buttons, check boxes, text fields, click the radio buttons, list boxes and combo boxes. Components for Flash CS3 is easier than ever to customize, simply double-click a component and edit its "skin".
ActionScript can call and check for a specific purpose if your condition corresponds to a Boolean value, as a radio button. You can even use ActionScript to check the specific conditions and return certain values, create your own questions and interaction test.
You also dynamically update the text file components external text. Thus, the development of applications is much easier now, using Flash and ActionScript components.
8. Dynamic Text
As above, Flash lets you take text into dynamic text fields. You can import variables from a simple text file, or load to from text to HTML or XML. Flash CS3 has expanded its capacity to manage the XML with E4X.
You can also use an object manager to bring external text into text fields. This loader object has specific conditions that when met, the text appears when the load is finished (Or display an error message if a problem occurred). Dynamic text can be formatted by an external CSS file, or use simple HTML tags. But all the text fields that accept dynamic text should have all fonts embedded or character set of a system font.
The main advantage of using dynamic text is flexibility. When the contents of your application, it is much easier to change a text file for external change the text in a Flash file. The text is imported dynamically is cached by Flash Player, so be sure to clear the cache when updating the content your application.
9. Built from templates Quiz
In addition to its built-in learning interactions, Flash also offers Quiz templates. Just go to File, then click New, and Templates section, select the category of the competition.
Competition There are three styles choice. To the left of the stage, a control component provides instructions and is governed by the Component Inspector. You can make adjustments to the test and select all results. Each frame in the Quiz template has its own set of learning interactions for you to choose from. So when you need a multiple choice question, can copy and paste part of multiple-choice questions and amended if necessary.
It is very easy to set up a questionnaire from this model. And by default, the publish settings are set to SCORM 1.2, Quiz for sending results to a model of LMS. We'll talk more about it in the next section.
10. Built in the SCORM / AICC Support
Flash supports the SCORM 1.2 and 2004 and AICC standards. Any request that you develop in Flash (which needs to communicate with SyberWorks LMS) must be "published" using these models. Go to the File menu, then select Publish Settings. Click HTML tab and choose the right model for the type of activity you want.
In an HTML file that has been published by Flash, you will find a large JavaScript file that contains all the functions and variables necessary to achieve the application programming interface of the LMS. There are also functions for connecting Shareable Content Object with the LMS.
But keep in mind that Flash does not generate a file manifest its published content. Thus, you should use an external application manifest to gather all the components of your application, to increase an LMS. (A manifest file is a library of all the goods needed for a course, including SCO's, HTML, SWF and other files.) SyberWorks LMS supports all SCORM 1.2 and AICC course, and our customer service representatives can assist you to configure the manifest files for hosting on our LMS.
Summary
If you want to give your course a lot more zing, Flash is a perfect tool for the construction of experiments Learning richest. Custom Flash development can take longer than developing traditional courses, but the extra time is more than offset by improved, more interesting learning experiences for students.
And with Flash, you never have to worry about the student to see your course materials, including audio and video. Built in components, learning interactions and evidence also support SCORM and AICC standards, make Flash an attractive option for the creation of compelling e-Learning course.

I lost the instructions to our game UNO Spin?
My daughter got this for her birthday. He opened it, but I can not find instructions now. I know UN rules, but we need to know the basics about it. I do not know how to handle. I also saw a card with 2 arrows in a circle a bit (it was assumed the opposite). Also a map with a circle with a diagonal line through it (which was supposed skip). The color cards with spirals in the spin card numbers? Is this person playing rotation when you play or the person on their side? One person that transforms the person who does what he says. (Do not include: 1 draw, get rid of all but 2, etc. In addition, where to place these cards rejected? In the discard pile on the card that is next to play? On the floor? It just seems that there are many cards. I looked online but could not not find a place to receive instructions. Thank you
You compared to 7 letters. Map 2 arrows is reversed, the circle with a line through, it is a container. The swirl of color cards are the drawing cards. The person who draws a card with an Eddy automatically the next player must rotate. Person that transforms you have to do what he says about the wheel, sometimes the other players have also joined, as when all they have to say, "You Spin! and who says to remove it. I suppose you put the cards on the exhaust stack. At least that's what we did.

Inuyasha: The Final Act (Episode 16)
Inuyasha: The Final Act (Episode 16)
“Kagome, Kagome. You are a bird in a cage. Crane and turtle slip and fall. Who’s behind you now?” A group of children sand the sing and played their game. When Hitomiko turned to check her answer, but Naraku greeted her, instead. Naraku attempts to take young Hitomiko’s life. Instead, her barrier protected her and his Miasma killed her friends. Sensing her powers being quite powerful, Naraku wants to get rid of her. However, was interrupted by the priest of the temple, and was chased away by the powers of Hitomiko. This happened 15 years ago.
Now, Hitomiko has grown into a full priestess, and has great powers. She was called to duty, as one of the villagers was sort of possessed some sort of demon. She rushed to the scene and exorcised the demon from the man’s body. However, she was greeted by Naraku’s laughter, and she understands that she has let her guard down. She has allowed Naraku to possess her. Knowing this, she instructed the villagers to bury her body and head as far away as possible. However, the villagers did do as she has instructed.
Inuyasha and gang arrive in the very village, following the scent of Naraku. They then find out that the supposedly dead Hitomiko is alive. Hitomiko then attacks the group, but was easily repelled by Inuyasha’s attack. Hitomiko then lures the gang to the shrine. There, she puts up a priestess barrier, which only a priestess can break. Then, she kidnaps Kagome into the shrine; Leaving the rest of the gang helpless against the barrier.
Hitomiko used Kagome’s blood to trap her within a confined circle. Hitomiko is then being forced by Naraku to kill and seal Kagome’s holy powers. Seeing Naraku’s head appears. Being confined in the circle,Kagome should not be able to move. However, Kagome is able to reach for her arrows and shoots it, but Naraku escapes the attack of course. Hitomiko then tells Kagome that she is not strong enough to save her; she is unable to utilise the bow’s powers; she only aims and release her attacks.
Wanting to taunt Kagome, Naraku reveals a spider which is placed within Hitomiko. Also, saying that it is the only way of stopping her, and killing her. However, killing her this way will taint Kagome’s soul, and put Hitomiko in hell. Knowing this, Kagome tries to buy time and runs from the barrier attacks being put up Hitomiko. While running, she steps through the floor and falls into an illusion of hell by Naraku. And then Hitomiko attempts to strangle Kagome to death.
Kagome was able to escape the strangle and was then trapped in flames made from her blood. The flames will not burn her, but wrap her in extreme heat for all eternity. Being trapped in the flames, it triggered Kagome to think through what Hitomiko had tried to tell her. And think of why is she called Kagome. She found out that, she was called Kagome because her mum saw a star figure (made of 2 squares) when she was born. And that she knows whoever is standing behind her no matter what. Is that her power? Like the game children play?
Feeling that she might had figured what her true powers are, Kagmoe looks at the spider within Hitomiko. She then sees the same star that she was born with on the spider. She asks for the bow’s assistance to combine it’s powers with hers. She gathers her courage and concentration and shoots the arrow towards the spider. Upon reaching the spider, the arrow then disappears and passing Hitomiko and heads straight towards Naraku. Naraku caught by surprise, was not able to escape the attack, and took the full blow. The attack freed Hitomiko from Naraku’s control, and she reveals to Kagome that her powers could only be seen after she releases the arrow from the bow. This indicates that her powers are being restricted/sealed by someone or something. Is it Kikyo? Or something else?

How can I make a Projectile Weapon out of Bamboo?
I’ve got a lot of scrap wood that I’m allowed to use and I like making weapons too. But how can I make a Gun or Crossbow out wood (no Bow & Arrows kind of thing. Only crossbows. I’m trigger happy).
I ‘ve got hammers, saws, metal strings, huge rubber-bands and a bolo (it’s like a sword) but NO power tools, wood glue or nails either. I want something that could shoot rocks or maybe wooden bolts but nothing with killing power, more like sling-shot power. INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE. Oh and this is for fun only.
How about an Atlatl? simple to make, tough to master.
